September Spike In Kids’ Asthma Attacks

The Ontario Lung Association recently issued a Media Release with the byline ‘New Data Confirms Returning to School Causes Problems for Kids with Asthma’ (see http://www.on.lung.ca/september-spike-2014-release).  This data points to an annual peak in for asthma flare-ups among young people and their family members.

According to The Lung Association’s website, spirometry testing plays an important role in the diagnosis of asthma and The Lung Association supports spirometry testing by Family Physicians in their offices.  The first stop for many people with asthma flare-ups is their Family Physician.  Therefore, we also support  in-office spirometry testing by Family Physicians, as a way of facilitating early diagnosis and early commencement of asthma management.
