New Modalities for Diagnostics for Doctors Platform

Telemed Diagnostic Management Inc. (TeleMED) today announced that it has expanded its Diagnostics for Doctors management platform by adding spirometry testing, Loop monitoring and ambulatory blood pressure monitoring.

As a result, Family Physicians can provide their patients with in-office diagnostic testing for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), asthma, hypertension and other forms of heart disease. They can also obtain secure, online diagnostic assistance from Specialists, on an as-needed basis. Early testing and diagnosis will, in turn, enable early implementation of treatment plans. Monitoring the efficacy of those plans can also take place in the familiar and easily accessible environment of the family doctor’s office.

“For over a decade, TeleMED has been the country’s leader in providing sophisticated vital-sign management technology to community medical patient care centres,” says Asa Lebel, President of TeleMED. “We recognize the benefits of bringing healthcare services as close to the patient as possible. The continuing development of the Diagnostics for Doctors platform evidences our commitment to provide an equally efficient, high-quality management platform specifically designed for the growing needs of the primary care physician.”

Telemed Diagnostic Management Inc. (TeleMED), Canada’s leading provider of customized vital-sign management systems, today announced that it has made 16 installations of its Diagnostic for Doctors management platform, thereby surpassing management’s expectations. In addition, there are a number of orders for systems that are waiting to be installed in early 2015.

The Diagnostic for Doctors platform provides an efficient and cost-effective system for Family Physicians to perform and manage a variety of cardiopulmonary tests from a single, integrated platform. TeleMED provides a turnkey solution that includes medical devices and enhanced proprietary workflow software, together with secure data sharing and storage from a single, cloud-based point of access.

“The marketing and sales of the Diagnostics for Doctors concept started in the second quarter of the year,” said Asa Lebel, President of TeleMED. In addition, our program is quite original and goes well beyond what others offered. Therefore, we expected that it would take some time for Diagnostics for Doctors to establish a footprint in the market. The fact that the sales have come faster than we anticipated proves that there is a need for an innovative idea that brings clinical-quality, diagnostic testing closer to the patient.”

Telemed Diagnostic Management Inc. (TeleMED) is pleased to announce that DynaLIFEDx (DynaLIFE) has renewed its ECG service agreement with TeleMED’s Alberta subsidiary.

Under the new agreement, TeleMED will continue to provide infrastructure services for DynaLIFE’s ECG services in its Patient Care Centres, as it has for more than seven years.  In addition, the contract anticipates that TeleMED will expand its services to include infrastructure support for DynaLIFE’s mobile testing services.

This contract was renewed due to TeleMED’s proven results in maintaining and enhancing DynaLIFE’s ECG services through continuous improvements in productivity and excellence in the delivery of support services.

Over the years, TeleMED’s experts have worked in close collaboration with DynaLIFE staff to ensure that TeleMED’s solution evolved as DynaLIFE’s needs became more complex.  During the past year, for instance, TeleMED collaborated with Alberta Health Services to enable delivery of DynaLIFE’s ECG test results into Netcare, Alberta’s confidential electronic system of patient health information.  Other customizations included the introduction of automated Peer Review of ECG interpretations.

Asa Lebel, President of TeleMED, said, “This contract renewal is an excellent example of our success as a long term trusted partner.  Our record of collaboration and innovation assures DynaLIFE that it can rely on TeleMED’s support in growing its ECG services and protecting its patients’ ECG data.

TeleMED Adds 8 Clinics in October

Telemed Diagnostic Management Inc. (‘TeleMED’) is pleased to announce that, in the month of October, it reached agreement to provide vital-sign data management solutions to eight (8) primary care clinics.  Each of these agreements represents a new partnership under its recently-launched Diagnostics for Doctors program.  This initiative is specifically intended for and marketed to Family Physician groups.

“Diagnostics for Doctors offers these physicians a powerful, efficient and cost-effective alternative for vital-sign diagnostics”, says Asa Lebel, President of TeleMED.  “Our expansion into this market was only launched a few months ago and each month’s results have been an improvement over the previous month.  We are gaining traction in this sector, proving that there is an appreciation of the value of our offering.  The physicians also appreciate the fact that they can start with small-scale solutions and easily scale up to more comprehensive solutions when they are ready to do so.

Automated ECG Priority Escalation

Alberta Health Services (AHS) recently introduced a standardized process for handling Edmonton-area community laboratory patients that present with acute critical ECG interpretations.

According to the process, if the Test Collector identifies any of five defined phrases (e.g. – “complete heart block”) in the device-generated interpretation, the Collector is required to escalate the priority of the test and immediately take the prescribed urgent care action.

This implementation is part of a province-wide initiative, the purpose of which is to overcome the potential for a delay in urgent patient care that can arise because of the time required for routine ECG interpretation by the physician.

AHS’ process seeks to accelerate the initiation of action by leveraging the value of the preliminary interpretation that is generated by the ECG device by instigating action at the point of care, before the test is even transmitted to the physician for interpretation.  However, in doing so, the process places a large responsibility upon the Collector because that clinician must manually “eyeball” the device’s interpretation and accurately identify the presence one of the phrases that would trigger prioritization escalation.  Catching or missing such a phrase could literally make the difference between life and death for the patient.

TeleMED has developed a way of managing this risk by automating the process of detecting the acute ECG interpretation and by flashing an alert on the clinician’s monitor.  Because our solutions feature interoperability, this tool can function with multiple brands and models of ECG recorders.

One of our Alberta clients deployed the tool several months ago and achieved remarkable success in reducing the rate at which Collectors failed to escalate the priority of a test.  Before deployment, our client relied upon its Collectors to manually detect the tests that required Priority Escalation.  Since the deployment of the tool, missed Priority Escalation have been reduced by 75%.

September Spike In Kids’ Asthma Attacks

The Ontario Lung Association recently issued a Media Release with the byline ‘New Data Confirms Returning to School Causes Problems for Kids with Asthma’ (see https://lungontario.ca/news/closing-week-38-spike/).  This data points to an annual peak in for asthma flare-ups among young people and their family members.

According to The Lung Association’s website, spirometry testing plays an important role in the diagnosis of asthma and The Lung Association supports spirometry testing by Family Physicians in their offices.  The first stop for many people with asthma flare-ups is their Family Physician.  Therefore, we also support  in-office spirometry testing by Family Physicians, as a way of facilitating early diagnosis and early commencement of asthma management.
